Preferably social ones.

That don't cost much.

Suggestions... go!

card/board gaming? Our game shop has a whole game library and there's always someone hanging around to play, special "new game" board game nights, etc.

a movie meetup? We have a girls group meetup that goes to matinees, which are the cheapest ones. That could work while the babes is in preschool.

gardening? If you've got a community garden in your area, that's a GREAT hobby and good for children to be all involved in, too.

geocaching? bowling? drawing? one of our local art studios has open draw every week or every other week....

Thanks for the ideas!

I've been at the periphery of gaming circles many times in the past (seemingly every polyamorist is into card and board games -- it's like an entrance requirement to the club), and felt no real draw. I'm mildly interested in a basic D&D sort of get-together, but any other game is usually a big yawn for me.

Movies and gardening... they lack intrinsic interest for me. I get to see maybe two or three movies a year, and I doubt I'd scrape together enough interest to see more. Bowling isn't cheap around here, while geocaching is basically just a complication added to hiking, which is fun enough on its own.

The drawing idea sounds interesting, but I'm enough of a perfectionist that I sense I would be unhappy with how bad I am at it.
