Those who can afford to be privately insured, however, are going to have to make sacrifices in order to pay for all those who cannot. Its not like an extra 1% in taxes will be sufficient. Tax rates for households making over a certain amount (i'm not sure on the exact amount) have already jumped to 68%. If you've spent several decades in school to become successful and provide for your family, why does the government have the right to reallocate your hard earned wealth to the poor? Medicare and medicaid are already poorly run and bankrupt. Why would an even larger plan be more successful? Plus, people already donate millions of dollars a year to humanitarian causes. Why should these dollars come out of taxes?
That's my general stance, anyway.
