Yeah, but I don't think anyone is talking about public healthcare being the only option. It would just be a fallback for people who don't have private insurance. Most countries in Europe have private insurance companies in addition to their public healthcare. It's good at least that he's being honest. The public health insurance probably wouldn't cover a pacemaker for someone over 100. That's to be expected. Every insurance company has its own guidelines and of course only the most expensive ones provide the best coverage. I'm glad I'll still have the option of having private insurance because it is true that the people in this country who are well-insured do have the best healthcare in the world. Those who don't need to have something, but it shouldn't be on par with private insurance because it's coming out of taxpayer money.

That's my take on it, anyway.

Good point. :)

Those who can afford to be privately insured, however, are going to have to make sacrifices in order to pay for all those who cannot. Its not like an extra 1% in taxes will be sufficient. Tax rates for households making over a certain amount (i'm not sure on the exact amount) have already jumped to 68%. If you've spent several decades in school to become successful and provide for your family, why does the government have the right to reallocate your hard earned wealth to the poor? Medicare and medicaid are already poorly run and bankrupt. Why would an even larger plan be more successful? Plus, people already donate millions of dollars a year to humanitarian causes. Why should these dollars come out of taxes?

That's my general stance, anyway.
