While I have no doubt that your work in the library has been...marvellous, I think it best to have some sort of warden supervision. I shall arrive momentarily to assist.

...I'm really alright. It's not like I'm working with dangerous materials or anything. You don't have to waste your time, it's fine.

And I'm a damn sight more capable than most.

I am quite certain you and the others are very capable. Allow me only to help with the work for the time being.

I really can handle it by myself, I'm sure you've got... other jobs to do. I'm perfectly fine, got it covered, everything. Even making up for Randal's counter productive presence.

You're not taking over the library.

Well, you're not.

I'm second in command. I take over in the event of death, demise, departure, or castration.

Oh, like the previous times, when you've done so much work.

If you can't keep track of your item, you can't keep track of a library, Randal.

...Should I ask what that human holiday is?

Thank you.

Although, truth be told, he'll get bored, won't turn up, and then it'll be all mine anyway.

I see. I'm not sure I buy into any of these.

Probably because I do all the leg work myself. They can get away with it.

I won't let him.

I think we're in total agreement that Randal Graves cannot be permitted to run the library.

What's your proposal?

I haven't sensed any dimensional disturbances, or noticed people acting oddly--more oddly than usual at any rate. I think we might be safe from forced participation in this human holiday. For once.

Good. Thank you.

My proposal is, Narvin, that you volunteer. You don't even have to turn up, if you don't want. Then I get de facto charge, and you have de jure.

Makes a nice change.

It's a reasonable proposal. I'll do it.

I knew I liked you for a reason, Narvin.

Be careful of the Goddess. She seems to think I'm trying to step over her warden's body whilst it's still warm, if you forgive the analogy about one of your own people. [Not that she's exactly wrong, Ardent.]
