[Filtered away from Coyolxauhqui]

Wardens. First of all, stop fussing over the Goddess' rules. She may have written them, yes, but firstly - the principle of them is the same, and what a travesty it is that someone who is not yourself thought to write rules. How dare we have a say? Also the rules are hardly that appalling or unfair ( Read more... )

just a touch of hamcrusher, warden permission? what's that?, epic library worker right here, team xenophobia!, self-appointed lord of the library, secretly a warden, all dwarfs are contract lawyers, haters gonna hate

First of all, no one is objecting to the rules, the punishments are being objected to and of those, the violent punishments are.

Secondly, this is has little to do with the fact that you and Coyolxauhqui are inmates barring that people feel it is more likely that the attempt is made for the violent punishments to be enacted, particularly in Coyolxauhqui's case, as several individuals have, in fact, endured a very similar experience at her hands.

Thirdly, while Narvin is in charge of you, he made no mention of being in charge of the library.

Fourthly, it is your need to take over the place that is also making us less inclined to trust you with the role, particularly given you enacted actual physical harm to the previous warden in charge. Just because he was a racist lay-about does not give you the right to do so.

Fifthly, through discussion, Agent K, Chromie and Arthur have, in fact, expressed desire to supervise the library and will be doing so in the future.

Speak for yourself. Some of us like having books out more than a week. And eating and drinking and smoking.

You objected to the removal of hearts, Spike

Honestly, 'some of us' is actually just you. The others didn't object. And I don't believe eating, drinking and smoking have been forbidden on the barge.

Doesn't mean I don't object to the other bits. And even if it is just me, I'm not no one.

[Slight eye-roll]

There you go issuing demands again. Do keep in mind that I'm not your lackey.

[And then he undermines his objection by doing what Ardent asks. Because it would keep his inmate pleased and out of trouble, and because information is good.]<.i>

I'm not issuing demands.

I'm asking you to do take the responsibility you told me you would. I'm asking you to be held to that response.

I'm doing what I can to hold up my end of the agreement. But I don't have the authority to override three other wardens and the popular opinion of the Barge. Perhaps there was an opportune moment before Coyolxauhqui announced her absurd rules when I could have slipped into the vacant position without fuss, but I was drugged in the infirmary at the time, and that moment has passed.

This is one political battle I may have to let go before it makes both our situations worse and not better.

Agent Kay is trustworthy, and an ally. Arthur and Chromie are both responsible and reasonable wardens. I think this is as close to a victory as we're going to get and we should accept it before someone more objectionable takes advantage of the ruckus to stake a claim.

You gave me your word, Narvin. That is more important than three other wardens who just did it on a whim.

I was trying to rectify the situation with the goddess' rules whilst you were hurt, but people seem to have turned on me for trying to do so.

I actually find it incredibly insulting that the wardens have clearly discussed who's going to be in charge of something without consulting the two long standing workers here, who do it through choice, reverance and love, not for a trade, or forced to.

No. Me and Coyolxauhqui have intent to work together, to whatever end Narvin pleases.

I would prefer the goddess' rules stand, but with the knowledge that neither me nor Narvin would let it get as far as killing.

I'm going to take a supervisory position in the library, Ardent. Chromie and Arthur are going to alternate with me.

Narvin agreed to this already, K! You can ask him. He agreed to it with me.

His authority [spoken like it's in inverted commas] is much preferable to any of yours, and we agreed to it.

He's not said a word to me about it since back when Randal and you were vying for the library, and as far as I know he's on pretty good terms with all the wardens volunteering their services. You can't prohibit wardens from working in the department.

Then he obviously hasn't had the chance, as I specifically asked him and he specifically said yes, and any other wardens have simply jumped on a bandwagon that is not there.

Do all Rules come with loopholes?

It's an important part of constructing a contract.

Well written rules don't, but badly written ones are riddled with them.

And why are you so good at finding them?

Because Dwarfs are trained to write contracts - we revere the written word - and not to contravene contracts, but we also must find ways around things.
