CHARACTER INFO
Character name: Ruby
Fandom: Supernatural
Point in canon taken from: Ruby is taken from the season 3 finale of SPN when Dean traps her in the devil’s trap.
Appearance: Ruby can usually be found wearing jeans, high heeled boots, a tee shirt and a leather jacket. She’s got long blonde hair that’s usually wavy and loosely curled. She’s quite tall, standing 5’11 barefoot and thin. Most of the time she’s got a distinct ‘bitch please’ look on her face. She’s considered pretty by most people and certainly by herself. The body she’s in has minor scars, the sort that every human acquires (skinned knee from learning to ride a bike, thin, small scar on her left hand from cutting up celery) but the only major scar she has is a bullet wound in the center of her chest. It looks like a new scar, kind of pink and soft looking. Ruby is represented in this form by the actress Katie Cassidy.
Personality: Ruby is a bitch. She’s sarcastic, condescending and insulting. Her social skills are nil to nothing. She’s selfish and shallow as well. She sometimes enjoys causing other people to squirm. She’s smart as a whip though and vicious to boot. She is also quite manipulative, knowing when to back down and play sweet and innocent when in reality she’s neither. Ruby likes people despite all of this. She likes that she’s not in hell and she enjoys her life more than most humans. She’s got a great deal of enthusiasm for things like food, movies, clothes and she loves the sunshine. For all of Ruby’s cynicism and bitchiness, she loves living on earth, as opposed to being stuck in Hell. Because of the many years she did spend in hell, she appreciates the little things in life. She is, at heart, a demon though. She doesn’t squelch from blood or pain or combat. She’s a little fighting machine (after all one doesn’t just walk out of Hell) and she’s brutally practical about things. For a demon, she’s even kind of loyal (which isn’t honestly saying much) and unlike most of her kind, Ruby remembers what it’s like to be human and more than that, she misses it.
History: Ruby was human during The Plague aka Black Death aka the bubonic plague. She was on the outside a good little Roman Catholic girl and secretly a witch. In the year 1400, on the tail end of the Plague, she was infected and scared to die. She cast some spells, made some deals and walked away with the magic necessary to save herself (and only herself, the demon was very clear about that) from the Plague. However, magic has a price and magic that strong had a very steep price. She sold her soul to walk the earth for a few more years. Ruby has always liked the underdog but she’s never been opposed to abandoning ship to hitch herself to the stronger horse’s cart. Someone came along with more power and more pull than Tami. They were tempting, pretty and tall [What can I say? I’ve got a weakness for a tall, pretty man] It wasn’t long until Ruby was batting for the other team and Tami was pissed. Humans don’t survive pissed demons for long. According to her deal, which couldn’t be circumvented no matter which horse Ruby was hitched to, when she died, Ruby’s soul got dragged straight to Hell.
After centuries (according to Hell’s clock) in Hell, Ruby made the transition from tortured soul to torturing soul to demon. She’d always kind of been an over achieving rebel and while she was never obedient enough to be sent on a mission, she clawed her way out of hell a time or two but her longest and most notorious stay began the night the Winchesters opened the gates of Hell and let just anyone out. Even that wasn’t a walk in the park. You can imagine the mob scene to take advantage of *that* get out of Hell free card.
Once topside, Ruby found a body she liked, started shadowing the Winchesters and was in the right place at the right time to save Sam Winchester’s ass. In Hell the conversation topics are limited. There’s who’s new, who’s gone to the dark side and Sam Winchester-Little Anti-Christ boy himself. Ruby was filled with all kinds of duplicitous motivations but her primary one was whipping the Boy King into shape so that he could grow up to be all he could be. She’s got Sam’s trust and yeah, she’s been doing some lying but that goes with the territory. She butts heads with Dean who doesn’t trust her despite the fact that she’s saved his ass a time or two as well. Right now, she’s just trying to make sure at least two of them get out of this relatively alive. Sorry Deano, you’re the low man on the totem pole as Ruby feels the need to save her Anti-Christ first and herself second and if she happens to help save the world in the process, well aren’t they the lucky little humans.
Example tag: Ruby didn’t mind Acairnia, not like she imagined some of the residents did. There were things to fight with at night and during the day, she had a pool to lay out next to. That was what currently occupied her time. Ruby was stretched out in a chaise lounge wearing an itty bitty bikini and reading the bible [Know thy enemy, Jackass]. She had a glass of iced tea next to her and a big floppy hat on. This was her favorite part of the island, lying out in the warm sun. She rarely got in the pool or took a dip in the ocean. Cold wasn’t really her thing. She lowered her sunglasses to watch one of the staff walk across the pool area.
Acairnia was practically paradise but then Ruby had spent centuries in Hell. It was possible her point of view was skewed.
Example journal: Alright, so we’re stuck on this island with beaches, pools, cabana boys and demons. Monsters, vampires, you say potahto, I say potato. Actually I say friggin’ French fries. Same thing. Did you guys miss the part where there are beaches, pools and cabana boys? Oooh, I wonder if there’s a gift shop? I could send Alistair a tee shirt.
