Wow, is this for a class?

I think that drugs are often bad, but outlawing them isn't the answer. This is what I want to know: Why did my uncle do more time for smoking pot than my dad did for beating my mom? My uncle didn't hurt anyone.

Yeah, the whole history of drug policy is filled with stories of people who did more time for drug possession than crimes that were actually violent. The whole system is beyond idiotic. Though recently they did revise the laws so judges can have more control over sentencing, so maybe there is a little hope for change. Maybe. :(
