Goodness, I was a bit negative in my last post...that is definitely going to change over the next month.
Starting today and into November, I'm embarking on a happiness = success campaign. Based on the information from
this TED talk, I will be journaling about one good thing that happened to me every day. I'll be doing here, because my fandom account doesn't seem quite right for it.
I'll actually be trying to do all the things he mentioned. They are:
Write down 3 unique things I'm grateful for every morning
Journal 1 good experience every 24 hours
Exercise
Meditate (10 minutes/day is my self-imposed goal)
Perform one random conscious act of kindness per day.
Now, I may have to work up to the exercise and meditation part of the program, but I can get started on the journaling/writing bit immediately.
So, let us see...first good thing I've experienced over the past 24 hours. Well, my sister made cookies for everyone. I had two this afternoon. They were dark chocolate no-back oatmeal. For some reason the dark chocolate ones don't set up as well as regular ones, but that's okay with me! I like gooey cookies.
And because it's in my head, I might as well share about last night! I attended and played in my first rehearsal with the Signature Symphony since my return from graduate school. I'd been practicing about 30 minutes a day for the past four, so my fingers were getting back into the groove, and I'd practiced all the pieces at least once. Overall, it went really well. I didn't struggle with the rhythms or notes very much, and some were even easy! It was a lot of playing: 2 1/4 hours, so my fingertips got sore, but I stretched a bit, and have let my fingers rest since then. I think tonight will be easier, now that we've all played together and know what things are supposed to sound like, at least with the orchestra. I'm looking forward to playing with the group we're performing with in two days:
Asleep at the Wheel. Lots of Western Swing. I love the rhythms. Getting "into the groove" is one thing I've never had much problem with.
And now I need to go get some food before rehearsal...
