Hey guys.

The last couple of months haven't been so hot, but I have made a lot of new friends at the university so that's good.

Umm, last time I did a real update (the one below is a meme I'd like everyone to reply to, since I love you!) I mentioned going to a rheumatologist.  Got tested for lupus and got a positive reading, but fortunately it turned ( Read more... )

Making new friends is nice and... You're absolutely right! It's never lupus!!!

And as for weight... First, Milkshakes are no good... Second, you can have hamburgers since those make you gain weight fast. Also pasta, but also depends on your body since pasta has carbohydrates so it can make you hyperactive. I think pork can influence. And as for habits, dont think on eating alot or eating between hours, just eat normally just change the diet a little. Maybe the stress is the reason that you dont gain any weight, also the activity during University can make you burn enough calories. Just an advice in case your University activity is very intense: Have sugar, is a great gasoline specially for the brain ^^

(Wow, me and my strange big brother/sister complex!)

Have you been tested for celiac disease? I can't remember if you have it or not. Diseases like that are often culprits in chronically underweight people.

You could try eating more frequently and adding more nuts and dried fruit, concentrated food sources, to your diet. Sardines packed in oil and salmon are also very nutrient-dense foods. Neutral protein sources like rice or whey powders are good when mixed into pasta sauce or soups or baked into breads.

I hope that's a little helpful for you.

Hello Ande -

I don't have celiac disease and to my knowledge I've not been tested. The only chronic illness I have is IBS, but that should not affect my weight. I lost a lot during a bout of gastroenteritis last summer that was aggravated by stress... I am hungry often (my friends and I make tapeworm jokes constantly ;)) but if I eat too much in one sitting it aggravates my IBS. I eat frequently since I'm hungry a lot and also because I've got hypoglycaemia.

Mmm, I love salmon. I craved some today.

You might benefit from at least some research on celiac. The symptoms you describe aren't completely off-base for some people's experiences. You could also just try cutting out wheat for a couple weeks and seeing what happens.

I'd just try and eat more often, other than that, as I said. Nutrient-dense foods, as natural as possible. Good luck with it.
