And this isn't including all the stuff they put in the cellphone nowadays. Music player, photo gallery, web surfing, etc. I remember when a phone was just a phone, lol XD
I don't know. I see the same mobile-phone "abuse" that you do, but if my car broke down in the middle of nowhere, it's nice to know I can call for help.
What many people don't understand about technology is that they're tools, not toys.
My choice for the "modern invention the world could do without" - the SUV.
More specifically, the most pointless passenger car ever made: the Hummer? I saw one the other day with a huge bumper sticker on it that read "Fuck the Sierra Club." Nice, huh?
Well we have our troglodyte CA governor to thank for the Hummer. "Arnold" saw one and wanted it, and when he was told they were military vehicles only he used his "star power" to get a waiver so he could drive one of those monsters on the street.
My PDA: phone, organizer, camera and computer all in one. I check and send email, send texts, take pictures and call people with my phone. I don't have an iPhone, I have a Palm 755P which seems to work just fine right now.
And the Star Tac phone!!! I remember those! I also remember when cell phones were the size of briefcases and came with a car as an upgrade. They were supposedly "portable" but they were ponderous and unreliable -- remember how bad the sound quality was?

That started the ball rolling.
I really hate our Governor with a passion.
