If you are going to friend me on LJ ( and I've been noticing more than a handful of Russian 'friends' befriending me, none of whom I know and none of whom belong to any community I'm on, at LEAST let me know where you saw me. There's nothing weirder than seeing someone friending me and then not telling me why or how. I assume some of these Russian

Most of the other stuff though...these 'new friends' are Russian and I swear it's spam. I go to their journals and there's nothing there, I can't remember where I ever even saw them, or the journal is in Russian/Cyrillic alphabet. Go figure.

I keep getting requests from unknown Russians too. I assume they are bots not real people.

Yeah I gotta find a way to block them. But...strangely one of them did have a journal..all in Russian, which makes me wonder why she friended me when mine is in English??

I know that too, I even wrote back to one of them, he even had entries in his journal bit in Russian/Cyrillic alphabet. I wrote that I´m German, that I understand German and English and if he knows one of those languages he should write back and I´ll add him.. he never did. Therefore if it´s clear that a person don´t understand the language your LJ is written in, better not friend back.
I don´t have anything against Russian people, if one friends me, undrstands English I don´t have a problem, I agree with lindahoyland that´s most of them are just spam and not even real people...

Oh yeah it isn't the fact that they're Russian, just that it could be ANY nationality or person and I have NO IDEA where they met me, it throws me off and confuses me.

Hover over their user icon (provided they have one). You have one of two options at this point. You can Ban User from your journal, or Report Bot. Both work. I've used them before. Most Russian journals I've encountered are bots. It's really cut and dry, not worth anyone's time trying to figure it out in the long run...
