Excellent chapter. Gaius descends further into paranoia... I think it's actually Gaius that has the most in common with Uther.
I love Merlin arriving like an approaching storm. I love the dynamics between everything... mainly, I just love this story.
I'm really worried about Gwen though and the possible repercussions of whatever Gaius is brewing.

In a way, Uther and Gaius always struck me as two sides of the same coin as well. While I don't quite see Gaius in canon how I portray him in later chapters, I think he had a long way to go from the man who somewhat passively/collaboratively endured Uther's crusade against magic to the man he is in the last couple of episodes - and he could have easily taken a "wrong turn" along the way. As practically all authority figures in "Merlin", Gaius is not actually a very good role model and not always a good influence on the young generation.
But here, he has definitely descended into Uther-like paranioa, possibly because he has been left to his own devices for too long.
I'm glad you keep enjoying the story!
