PERSONALITY:
Hidetoshi is Gekkoukan High School's Disciplinary Committee supervisor, and that right there says a lot about his personality. He is very much about following the rules and maintaining the proper order of things, and will go to occasionally ridiculous lengths to keep his fellow students in line. He's very responsible and dedicated to his job, but those are about the only good things most people would have to say about him. A tendency toward believing his way is the best and not listening to the input of others has earned him the dislike of many of his peers, and his overzealous approach to getting other students to fall in line doesn't help.

Hidetoshi believes strongly in the importance of power - not for its own sake, but for what those with power can do. Really, all he wants to gain power for is the ability to create a world in which everyone is treated fairly. Mixed in with this however is a large degree of pride and a need for respect, further complicated by his dim view of others' ability to think for themselves. He believes that relationships almost always end in someone getting hurt and as a result tends to hold himself aloof from most, aside from those who meet his high standards.

Despite his (well-earned) reputation for being kind of a hardass, Hidetoshi isn't that bad a guy. He's idealistic and really wants to make the world a better place and believes what he's doing will help others - he knows he's disliked for his actions but thinks that it's a necessary evil in achieving his goals. He just tends to look down on other people and think they need to be led to what's best for them, rather than trusting that they can help themselves. Still, when he does choose to trust someone he's a very loyal friend, willing to stick with that person through thick and thin. And for all his seriousness, he can still be silly at times and does have a (rather dry) sense of humor around those he considers his friends.

Much of Hidetoshi's issues with power and control come from an incident involving his father when he was younger. His father, a scriptwriter for a local TV news station and a man whom he greatly admired, impressed on Hidetoshi from a young age the importance of sincerity over all else. However, he was falsely accused of perjury, took the fall for another's mistake, and is still serving jail time over the accusations. After this incident, rather than valuing sincerity as his father taught him he instead began to value having power - believing that having as much power as possible was the only way to establish a fair system for everyone.

To that end, Hidetoshi - already something of a stickler for rules and doing things the Right Way - started going overboard on keeping people in line and trying to get everyone to rigidly go along with authority. However, after a deal he makes with a teacher to get the backing to be student council president falls through due to his desire to be true to a friend over his desire for power, he begins to learn at least a little bit that maybe his way isn't always the best way. Not that he's quite ready to admit that. Though Hidetoshi has begun to see the wisdom of tempering his zealousness with a little more common sense and respect for others, he still has a ways to go.

JOURNAL ENTRY SAMPLE:

[there's a jumpy video of the beach and some unintelligible muttering, then the video flips around to show an irritated teenager examining his surroundings before he focuses his attention back to the screen]

I assume this thing is transmitting to somebody. The information I was given upon arriving in this...place was patently ridiculous. Furthermore, I have an important presentation to make to the student council this afternoon. I will not miss the meeting.

I want to know what's going on here.

[the feed cuts out]

Also a thread, because I have it anyway and just in case.

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE:

FYI, both linked samples above were written for a normal high school AU; however, Hidetoshi's personality was unchanged.
