Summary: Jinyoung is the wedding planner and Jaebum is the groom. At least according to Jinyoung anyway.
Park Jinyoung is a man who likes to stick to his daily routines. And he has no intention of directing away from his daily routines let alone people attempt to “help change” them. If he is seen as a boring male then so be it because he is comfortable with the way he is right now.
His best friend Jackson always tells him to “relax and let it go” but Park Jinyoung knows he shouldn’t listen to that little shit because last time he listened to the latter; he ended up being groped by a group of horny men in a club which he certainly didn’t enjoy. He had kicked Jackson in his shin the very next day who had been flirting with the new staff Yongguk.
“Jinyoung, why the hell are you doing? I’ve been calling you for the past five minutes.”
Jinyoung snaps to see Baekhyun glaring at him and hurriedly gets up whilst collecting his belongings before catching up with the male. Everyone in their workplace knew that it was never a good thing to make Byun Baekhyun wait even if it was for two minutes.
“We have been asked to plan a wedding for a big businessman’s son this weekend so the pressure is very big. The boss is counting on you especially to make this whole wedding successful.”
Jinyoung can only nod because if their boss is counting on him “especially” then the client must be a very big one.
Park Jinyoung admits he is quite skilled when it comes to planning special occasions with weddings being his strength. In fact, he has made quite the name for himself among the country. This does mean he gets to plan weddings for big celebrities both from home and international. He doesn’t like bragging about it or talking about his job, not because he doesn’t like his job. But because Jackson already brags enough for him like a proud mother hen. He thinks Jackson will beat his own parents when it comes to bragging about him and that is saying something because everyone knows just how much “proud” his parents are for him and how much they love bragging about their only child.
“So, do we have any information about the clients?”
“No, that is why we are going to meet them right now. Well, you will be the one discussing about the details and all that stuffs, whilst I will be looking at the venue and doing the side works.”
“So, what you are saying is that you will just lazy around whilst I do all the hard work Baekhyun?”
“If you put it that way then I suppose so. But considering that you will be leading this whole planning, it is only right that you be the one discussing about the details. You should be thankful that I am even accompanying you when I didn’t have to. That bastard Seungyoon was supposed to be going with you.”
Jinyoung chuckles knowing the reason why the male isn’t here with him.
“Does his absence involve someone by the name Jinwoo by any chance?”
Baekhyun curses about how he will skin the bastard only confirms his suspicions and he is certain that the cursing male will definitely make Seungyoon pay for covering him. Byun Baekhyun never forgets a deal.
Jinyoung steps into the reception whilst Baekhyun goes to “examine” the whole venue.
“Reservation under Park Jinyoung.”
The female takes him into the meeting room where two males are already sitting there. An older male who seems to around his age and a much smaller boy who is playing on the tablet. Jinyoung awkwardly clears his throat to get their attention before letting a small smile appear on his face and extends his hand.
“Park Jinyoung. Sorry I made you wait.”
The older male smiles and shakes his head before extending his hand. Jinyoung notices the male is very good looking and extremely attractive.
“Im Jaebum. You didn’t make us wait so there is no need to apologise.”
“Pleased to meet you Mr. Im. Shall we get on with the planning for the wedding then?”
The male seems to want to say something but Jinyoung is already taking his notes and some brochures out leaving no chance for the male to speak. The male plops down next to him and Jinyoung gets a whiff of the latter’s perfume which smells of vanilla and something spicy. But Jinyoung likes it. In fact he finds himself liking the scent very much.
“So, Mr. Im do you already have something in your mind?”
“Please call me Jaebum. I don’t really know because you see I-"
They get cut by the child who starts tugging on Jaebum’s sleeve for attention. The child pouts before climbing into Jaebum’s lap earning a adoring smile from the latter. Jinyoung finds himself liking the way Jaebum’s eyes turn into two crescents and how his lips part to show his neat perfect teeth.
“Jaebummie, Yugyeom is hungry. Yugyeommie wants to eat.”
“Yugyeommie, hyung is doing something very important okay. If you stay still for the next few minutes, hyung will buy you whatever you want.”
The child pouts again but finally nods and slides to his seat. Jaebum pats his head gently and turns to Jinyoung who is looking at them with an amused smile.
“Your younger brother?”
“No, my son.”
Jinyoung’s eyebrows raise and Jaebum chuckles.
“Adopted son actually. He likes calling me hyung and my name instead even though I tell him to call me daddy every day.”
Jinyoung feels disappointed for some reason but he doesn’t know why. He smiles slightly before taking his notes out and starts scrabbling something. Of course, it would only be reasonable if the child was Jaebum’s son considering he is getting married hence why Jinyoung is here in the first place.
“Since, you don’t have any ideas, how about I give you a few options to take home and discuss? Since the wedding is in two months’ time, we still have time to discuss, plan and change the whole plan.”
Jinyoung stares at the two figures that are walking away from him and sighs.
“Jackson, for the last time I am not coming to that stupid party with you.”
“But you don’t even know what the party is about yet.”
“Every party you attend is stupid and the last time you dragged me somewhere I ended up being groped by horny men.”
“But I swear this time it’s different. Come one Jinyounggie, do it for me. I’m your best friend.”
“And? Being best friends doesn’t mean you can drag me around like a rag doll you idiot.”
Jinyoung curses as he listens to Jackson attempt to pull a high note with the help of his other friends. That stupid shit had to go and pull that puppy face and pout that Jinyoung always caved into and now he is here in the car stuck with idiots on the way to some party. Honestly all he wants to do is just go home and sleep because he hasn’t been sleeping well lately. All because of a man named Im Jaebum. He shouldn’t be thirsting for his client who is going to be married soon.
The moment they enter the house, Jinyoung gets abandoned by his friends.
“I will stay with you Jinyounggie throughout the whole party.”
“Little shit. Some friends they are but why did I even think those idiots would actually stick to their words.”
“Jinyoung?”
Jinyoung knows who the person is before he even turns around. He turns slowly and his lips lift in a tight smile because what the hell is his ex doing here.
“Inna, how nice to see you.”
The girl smiles and comes closer to him and Jinyoung’s smile falters a little because he wants the two timing bitch to back off and stay away from him. But of course being the gentleman he is, he lets his ex get into his personal space. His eyes wander around the room desperate to find his friends but alas, they seem to have vanished so, Jinyoung has no choice but to plaster a fake smile and face his ex.
“How have you been Jinyounggie?”
“Oh, I’ve been good actually.”
He isn’t going to tell her how he sobbed and shoved spoonful of ice cream in his face for at least two weeks causing his friends to pull their hair. He also isn’t going to tell her how he got drunk and started singing love songs at one or two in the morning in nothing but his boxers.
“So, did you come alone?”
“I came with my friends.”
There is an awkward presence lingering between them and all Jinyoung wants to do is just walk away but that would seem rude. They stand next to each other for the next few minutes exchanging questions and short answers before Jinyoung decides it’s too much and makes an excuse to get away from there. Just as he is about to go his ex speaks again softly.
“Jinyoung, I am sorry about that happened between us. I am not going to make any excuses for what I did but I just want to let you know that I did love you.”
Jinyoung looks at her and thinks back to that day when he bumped into her kissing another man.
“It’s good that you aren’t making any excuses because after what you did, you making excuses is only asking me to hate you more. What happened has happened and lets leave it in the past Inna.”
“Why do you look so happy today?”
Jinyoung jumps as Seungyoon joins him on the way to the car. Jinyoung immediately scoffs and tells the latter not to joke around. Jinyoung didn’t think his excitement would be that obvious. He had woken up extra early this morning and out in extra effort to look good because he would be meeting with Im Jaebum again to discuss the wedding plans. Jinyoung doesn’t know what to do because he is getting attracted to a man that is getting married in about two months. That man has a son too.
“Seungyoon, Baekhyun made some sketches for the alter which will need some adjustments. He said we might have to make the front space bigger so, I want you to go take some measurements. And I assume Baekhyun gave you the floor plans for the other rooms which we could possible use so, go take some photos and get some sketches because from the next week we will have to start making the arrangements and orders.”
“Jinyoung, sorry for making you wait. I had to stop by the shop to see how the rings were doing. Soojung has been nagging me to make sure the rings would be ready by the wedding.
Jinyoung feels another pang of disappointment but he hides it by chuckling and telling Jaebum he wasn’t that late. He takes out some paper and asks the latter if he had come to a decision for the wedding décor.
“Soojung likes this one but she was wondering if you could do it more plainly. Plain as in like fewer props with fairy lights hanging instead of those big flower vases. She wants the wedding to have a soft feeling because there won’t be a lot of people there.”
Jinyoung nods and starts scribbling in his notes. The half an hour is spent with Jinyoung scribbling whilst making a few suggestions here and there. By the end of the meeting, the whole wedding plan seems to have been decided and Jinyoung is happy that it went quicker than he expected because it meant that if a problem surfaced, then they would have enough time to fix it before the wedding.
“I am about to go pick Yugyeom and take him to lunch. Would you like to join us?”
“I would love to but I came here with a colleague and we have to go meet another client. Thank you for the invitation but I am afraid I will have to decline it.”
Jaebum nods before smiling and takes his leave promising to text Jinyoung later.
Jinyoung can’t help but notice the two moles on Jaebum’s left eyelid and thinks about how perfectly aligned they are. Jinyoung sighs before collecting his notes and heading out to meet Seungyoon in the main hall.
“Why the depressed face?”
“Seungyoon, why do I always have a bad timing in everything?”
The said male gives him a confused look but Jinyoung just shakes his head and beckons him to start walking or they would be late to the next meeting.
Jinyoung, it’s Jaebum. I am sorry but could please pick Yugyeom up for me. Everyone I know seems to be busy and I have an important meeting in a few minutes and you were the only one I could think of.
Jackson tells him to stop smiling like a creep and smacks his bum before skipping towards Yongguk who hurriedly tries to walk away when he sees Jackson coming his way. Jinyoung coughs before quickly texting back saying he would pick Yugyeom up. Jaebum replies back saying thank you along with the address to Yugyeom’s primary school and another set of address.
If you don’t mind, could you drop him by my office? I will be very grateful. Sorry for troubling you because you probably have so much work to do.
“Why the hell are you grinning like some pervert? Wait, are you looking up something dirty?”
Jinyoung glares Jackson before punching his arm as a revenge for smacking his bum.
“I am not a dirty pig like you Jackson.”
“Your words hurt me Jinyounggie.”
“Everything hurts you Jackson. Like that spider in your table this morning. I have to quickly do something but I will be back soon so, tell Seungyoon to be ready with his notes.”
“You are doing something naughty aren’t you Jinyounggie. I am your best friend.”
“See you later Jackson.”
As Jinyoung walks away telling the others that he would be back, he hears Jackson shouting about how he will find our Jinyoung’s secret.
Jinyoung thinks Yugyeom is the cutest child. The boy is so well mannered yet playful in his own way. He finds it endearing how the boy always asks before doing something and how he always refers to himself in the third person.
“Jaebummie hyung said that when he gets married Yugyeommie can throw the flowers and also hold the rings.”
Jinyoung feels that slight pang of disappointment again but what was he expecting. Jaebum was his client who was about to get married so, Jinyoung shouldn’t be feeling affections towards the male but he thinks it’s kinda late for that now.
“Jinyoung thank you so much. Did I disturb you from your work?”
“Oh no, I was free at that time. Don’t be sorry.”
“Are you going back to work now?”
“Yeah, I have to go shopping for the weddings coming up.”
“Of course the infamous wedding planner Park Jinyoung right?”
Jinyoung chuckles before arguing that he isn’t that famous but Jaebum shakes his head.
“Soojung specifically wanted you to plan this wedding because of your outstanding reputation so, don’t tell me you’re not famous. You plan weddings for celebrities for heaven’s sake Jinyoung.”
“You are exaggerating Jaebum. I only plan celebrity weddings occasionally.”
“But you do plan for them.”
Jaebum raises his eyebrows and Jinyoung lifts his hands jokingly to show his defeat making them both laugh. As Jinyoung looks at the laughing male in front of him he knows he is screwed and too far to turn back around. He likes the sound of Jaebum laughing. It has a melodious ring to it.
Over the next few weeks, Jinyoung and Jaebum get to know each other more but they don’t meet due to their work getting in their way. Jinyoung is busy with planning weddings and Jaebum is busy in the office. Jinyoung has fallen deeper for the latter despite knowing it’s pointless. So, he is glad that the two haven’t met up in a while because it allows Jinyoung to forget about the male.
A scream breaks his chain of thoughts and Jinyoung sees Jackson being kicked by Mark. He doesn’t try to stop because he just knows that Jackson being the annoying shit he is has done something wrong.
“Jinyoung help me. He is about to kill your precious best friend.”
“Did you eat my bagel this morning?”
“Well it was just there so, of course I ate it.”
“Mark, please continue.”
Jackson gasps as he clutches his heart before accusing Jinyoung of betraying him for a bagel. Jinyoung just shrugs causing Jackson to shriek whilst their friends look on in amusement.
“Park Jinyoung, are you suggesting that I, Wang Jackson, is worth less than that bagel of yours?”
“I never suggested anything Jackson.”
“But you were implying. Right?”
“If you say so Jackson.”
Jinyoung sticks his tongue out when Jackson lets out a fake sob and collapses dramatically on the chair next to him.
When Jinyoung meets Jaebum, it’s not during their usual meeting about the wedding, it’s because he happens to bump into the latter in the pharmacy. Jinyoung wants to crawl up in a hole and just stay there forever. He doesn’t even have to look into a mirror to know what a shitty mess he looks like right now. He is wearing his pyjama trousers with a worn out hoodie. He has the hood over his head with the edges tucked behind his ears making his ears stick out. Also, his hair is a mess and he is wearing socks with slippers. But what is more embarrassing is the thing in his hands that Jaebum is currently staring at.
“It’s for my sister. She came over to spend the night and yeah here I am.”
Jinyoung chuckles nervously and wishes the floor would just eat him right there. Jaebum stares at him before chuckling and lifts his own hand to show the same box of tampons.
“Soojung had an emergency too.”
Suddenly they both burst into laughter. They spend the next few seconds laughing before resorting to smile at each other. Jinyoung feels more comfortable. Maybe because they have been exchanging texts and becoming good friends with one another. And this encounter seems to broken all the ice between them.
“How are you and Soojung doing?”
Just as Jaebum is speak, Jinyoung’s phone rings and when he picks it up, his sister is screaming at him about how hard is it to just pick a box of tampons. Jinyoung retorts back saying just why the hell are there so many brands and what the hell is extra observant, regular, night wings even mean. Jinyoung hangs up rolling his eyes and turns to an amused Jaebum before smiling.
“I need to go because my sister is going crazy it seems. I will see you later. Tell Yugyeom and Soojung hello from me.”
The wedding date gets closer and Jinyoung is happy with the progress and he is sure that they will finish with enough time for fix any problems. He has been frequently updating Jaebum about it who seems happy and tells him and that his family is satisfied too.
“You seem to live up to your standard Jinyoung.”
Jinyoung lightly punches Jaebum before taking a sip from his soft drink. He turns towards Yugyeom and helps the struggling boy to cut his meat. Yugyeom beams at him before plopping the piece of meat in his mouth with a cute squeal.
“You’re good with kids.”
“I used to volunteer at a children centre before I became a wedding planner. I always thought I would end up being a primary school teacher but I don’t know what happened.”
Jaebum suddenly leans across to wipe his lips with a tissue leaving Jinyoung’s heart racing. Jinyoung quickly smiles at the male who has retracted his arm. Jinyoung doesn’t know what to do. All he can do for now if try to stop his affections for the latter and be happy for his friend. Now that he has got to know the male for quite a while, he thinks Jaebum truly deserves to be happy.
Jaebum is sweet and polite. The latter truly loves Yugyeom and seems to have a soft side for Yugyeom’s pouts so usually ends up giving into Yugyeom’s requests.
Jaebum is caring and thoughtful. The latter had taken care of him when he got a fever. Jaebum had told him that Jackson had told him not to leave Jinyoung’s side and make sure the sick male stayed in bed all day. Jaebum also liked to keep his promise because other than going to the toilet, Jinyoung wasn’t allowed out of his bed.
In a nutshell, Jaebum is the perfect candidate for a husband and seems to Jinyoung’s ideal type. But sadly, Jaebum already belonged to someone else.
“Jackson, what do you do when you have feelings for someone else but they already belong to someone else?”
“Nothing because I wouldn’t want to ruin their relationship.”
Jinyoung stares at the ceiling and feels Jackson lying down next to him leading Jinyoung to snuggle into his best friend.
“Why are you suddenly asking me that?”
“No reason. Say, what if you really loved them and thought that that someone wasn’t suitable for the person they are currently with?”
“Well, in that case, I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to admit my feelings to them. Trying is better than nothing I suppose. Jinyounggie are you okay?”
Jinyoung nods before closing his eyes whilst Jackson massages his head. Maybe he would give it a go. He knows his chances are slim considering the wedding would be taking place tomorrow evening but like Jackson said trying it better than nothing.
“Thanks Jackson.”
“You’re welcome.”
That is how Jinyoung ends up in front of the wedding venue early in the morning not really sure what to do. He takes a deep breath and is about to take a step when his phone vibrates.
“Good luck with Jaebum. You can do it.”
Jinyoung’s eyes widen because how did Jackson figure it out. He chokes causing his best friend to laugh.
“I am your best friend Park Jinyoung. I’ve known you for years so, why are you still surprised? I also know that you are wearing your rilakkuma boxers that you think gives you good luck.”
Jackson tells him to go for it and somehow hearing it from his best friend makes him more confident. He quickly texts Jaebum to meet him by the venue’s pool. As he waits for the older male to join him, he starts practising what to say and what to do when he gets rejected.
“Are you okay? I came as fast as I could.”
Jinyoung stops and stares at the male in front of him with his hair dishevelled indicating that he had left half way through make up. Jinyoung gulps as Jaebum gets closer to him because he doesn’t think he will be able to bear the heart break when he will be turned down.
“Jinyoung? What’s wrong?”
Jaebum furrows his eyebrows in concern and Jinyoung thinks just how perfect this man is. Suddenly he blurts out forgetting the practised speech he had been reciting.
“Jaebum, I love you. I know it sounds crazy but trust me. I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I can’t stop thinking about you. I love you and everything about you. From your moles, to your perfect teeth, to your voice to your fluffy hair. Everything. I know you belong to someone else but I just wanted to get it off my chest. I love you Im Jaebum.”
“Jinyoung…”
“I understand that you don’t feel the same way about me. I am sorry if I am ruining your wedding. I tried to forget you but you just kept coming in my mind an-“
“Jinyoung, I am not getting married though.”
Jinyoung stops and frowns.
“I beg your pardon?”
“I am not getting married. What are you talking about ruining my wedding? And I belong to someone else?”
“What are you talking about? Aren’t you getting married to Soojung today? Isn’t that why you were the one present for the wedding meetings?”
Jaebum chuckles suddenly.
“She is my sister. She put me in charge for attending the wedding plans.”
Jinyoung doesn’t know what to think.
“Why didn’t you tell me Jaebum?”
“I did. On the first meeting, I tried to tell you twice. I have been trying to tell so many times but you never gave me a chance.”
Jinyoung remembers how Jaebum had never mentioned it was him who was marrying Soojung. He has just assumed because Jaebum was the one attending all the meetings. He feels himself blushing because he has screwed it again.
“I am so sorry. I will just leave.”
“Jinyoung, I love you too.”
Jinyoung stops and stares at Jaebum.
“What?”
“I love you. I have wanted to confess to you for a long time but I was scared that you were already in a relationship with Jackson because he is always worrying about you.”
“Jackson? He is my best friend.”
They both stare at each other before bursting out in laughter.
“Seems like we both were idiots huh?”
Jaebum grins before closing the distance to press a kiss on Jinyoung’s lips. Jinyoung smiles in content because he had been worrying for no reason. Jaebum had always been by his side. He just needed to look more closely.
“I love you Park Jinyoung."
“I love you too Im Jaebum.”
