Like most famous people, he did plenty of work for various charities and such. I'm not saying he was Mother Theresa... but he did his fair share of positive work for other people both inside and outside the wrestling business.
Being a good person or bad person isn't an all-or-nothing thing... your actions overall dictate how you move up and down the scale. But some people are ready to declare Benoit the antichrist for what he did, holding him with the same contempt that they would for Manson, Timothy McVie and the like. I just think we need to put things into a little more perspective than that.
I'm gonna go on the record and say killing the wife and kid is worse.
Back at Timberlake Christian School they used to tell me that all sins are the same in the eyes of God; that may be true for God, but I've got a pretty detailed sin-ranking system myself. All sins are not the same in the eyes of 28bytes.
That's cool... and is certainly your right and it makes perfect sense. As I mentioned above, the whole good/evil thing I believe to also be a sliding scale, and not a glass full/glass empty thing. But hearing many people talk about this unfortunate incident, this one event automatically turned Benoit into Hitler, no questions asked / no perspective allowed.
I just find that kind of attitude a little disturbing. Yes, what he did was monstrous... but there are umpteen things that probably contributed to the explosion... not that he was just an evil man since he was born (which is how many holier-than-thou people are trying to portray him).
