I wish I had a suggestion for something to do. For me it wasn't fear but realization of my complacency which made me suddenly change direction in life. Now I know what I want to do, but I'm a little too scared to go as far with it as I'd like. I don't know if I'll ever become desperate enough to overcome my anxiety, but here's hoping!
I haven't posted to my livejournal in 4 years. I know my life is uninteresting to the general populace, and I'm OK with that. Don't think you "fail" at life if you don't post and share every last thing that goes on in it, that's the yoke/downside of "social media". Just know that there are people here who are interested in you, and on those rare occasions when you feel like sharing, you do have an audience of friends.
Dude, its time to hit EJECT. You're too isolated down there, and too social a person to survive like that indefinitely.
Obviously, my recommendation would be a move up 57 to Chi-town, but I acknowledge my bias as a native. But whether you move up here, back home, Madison where Clay and company are hanging out, or someplace else entirely, make sure its a place where you've got friends or family nearby.
So, step one would be to pick a place you might want to go, and see if you can find a job there. Easier said than done, I recognize, but a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step and all that.
I know its a pain in the ass. Hell, I've moved from Chicago to Champaign, then from Champaign to Dallas, and then Dallas back to Chicago in the time since you first set up shop down there. I know how much it sucks.
But I think its probably the healthiest thing for you right now.
I would have to agree that change of job and scenery is a healthy change every so often. Unless you move out to almost the countryside and discover you have hayfever and other allergies, then it's not so fun, but I digress. Chicago would do you good. Madison is, culturally speaking, right up your alley. I wouldn't say that I exactly hang out there, but it's at least close by. It's a lot like Champaign except bigger and more liberal.
Hey, I used to feel that way too. Then I DID burn everything down and start over! Now I'm a Junior at SCAD in the Sequential Art department and I'm LOVING it! Sure the Loans scare the crap out of me, but so did going back to school!
Sometimes you just gotta take the leap and trust it's the right thing to do. :)Being happy is so totally worth it!
