Calling all cat people who read my lj.

So, my sister's cat is here for the holidays (with her, of course). He's a very harmless cat, afraid of everything (after today's relocation, he spent a half hour cuddling with my sister in the spare room, and would barely transfer over to me when she went to change her pants... and I've met him before ( Read more... )

Are they both de-clawed?

Nope, neither of them. We're firmly against it.

Then putting them in a room together could end up being a bad idea, no?

Haha, they're both harmless, despite claws. But it was a joke anyway.

You don't. You kick them both outside and get a dog. A big one, who can't fit underneath a bed.

But... I like cats! Not that I don't like dogs, they're just not for me.

comming from me (we all know about Lacey's zoo house) you just gotta let them get used to each other. They're gonna get mad at each other, and fight. Eventually they'll get used to each other. Chester (mine) and Gwen fought constantly when we first got him. Now they're fine. It'll take a little while, but theres nothing else you can do. Its like trying to force a person to get used to another person. It just happens with time.

Yeah, that's what I figured. There were huge improvements today, but Jewel's still growling at him. Just... less intensely now. He's trying to make friends with her though. It seems to be his mission before he leaves.

just let them both get used to one another. and DEFINITELY don't take her out of her 'safe space' again [ie: out from under the bed]. that'll just scare her more. give them both a few days, and they should at least tolerate each other. and make sure they do have their own litterboxes [i think you mentioned putting one in the spare room for chester].

if you really want them to get along, you should keep the new cat in one room only for a few days, then introduce them... but it's a wee bit late for that now.

good luck! i hope it works out so you can get another kitty. :)

xoxox.

Yeah, taking Jewel out of my room was my mom's idea. She's more of the "force people to get along" kind of person, so she took that approach. It didn't work. But we've let Jewel sulk in my room for a couple days, and today she was back out in the rest of the house (I think she didn't want to miss Christmas) and tonight she's not even sleeping in my bed (kind of sad...). So I think things are improving.
