[Hey monster guy, guess what? You're being stalked! ...rather poorly. By a kid. He's making a lot of noise, like he's not even trying to be quiet. Could you at least try to be surprised when he runs out at you with a battle cry and his stick?

It's a big stick. Good for whacking monsters. Like you.]

[Ripa actually does give a start when he hears a terrible ruckus coming up behind him. The stick hits the armor on his knees and glances off. He reaches down and grabs the child up.]

How can humans have pride in birthing such frail, weak fleshlings? How can they even survive? At least you are fearless. Very few of my enemies have ever dared to rush me head-on.

[He looks at the monster and watches the weird 3-part mouth moving. He pokes one of them with the stick.]

[Ripa glances down as one of his four mandibles is prodded with the stick. If he was younger, he would tear this fleshling in half. Possibly gut it first. But now, there's no point to mindless slaughter. Honestly, he's just as curious about the young human as it is about him.]

No. I am a Sangheili.

Wha-- I have no owners! Were I allowed to return home to Sangheilios, and not forced to stay here on this wretched boat, the females would have flocked to me-- and I would have had my pick!

[A fellow warrior? Hm.]

All Sangheili must recite it. It is the backbone of our function as warriors. Breaking of lotalty is the highest of offenses, and those who fail must bear the Mark of Shame.

[Indeed he is--younger and cockier, but still]

Your primary function is helped by reciting old poetry? Sounds like a waste of time.

It is discipline. Hardly a waste of time.
