Welcome Welcome, lucky new residents! You have been chosen to participate in a sort of social experiment.
After a medical examination, you will be given a bracelet marking your new home; which will be one of two cities, dubbed the Elysian Fields and Tartarus. You will find out the meaning behind those names shortly. For now, just relax and prepare for your new life.
What happens when you first arrive...Your character awakens on an examining table, poked and prodded like a rat by men and women in white coats and surgical masks, obscuring their faces. Blinding white light bathes you as murmurs of words blend into a chorus of unintelligible sounds. You have no idea how you got here, why you're being put through this, why next you're being tagged with a bracelet bearing the marking of either 'I' or 'II'.
Or why you cannot remove it, no matter what you do.
You may feel confused or scared when you are led to a tiny, dark room and told to wait only to have men in uniform barge in next, covering your face with a black hood and leading you to what must be an automobile of some sort. You have a bad feeling about all of this. Who wouldn't?
The next thing you know, the blindfold is being taken off to show you either heaven or hell.
I. Elysian Fields A Heaven on earth.
You, lucky new resident, have been chosen to live out the rest of your life with total ease. You will never want or long for anything. The city is full of life and places to see, with beautiful plant life everywhere and blue skies as far as the eye can see. Crime is low, hospital care is topnotch, and should the need ever arise, the police department is but a phone call away--always ready and able to help you out.
For absolutely nothing in return, you get to live in a peaceful utopia for the rest of your days. Aren't you a lucky one?
II. Tartarus Welcome to Hell on earth.
You, new resident, have been condemned to a life of struggle and hardship. In this city, crime bosses are the rulers and one must fight if they wish to survive. You may be forced to resort to things you have never thought you would have to, demeaning yourself in ways you have never even dreamed of.
This is the kind of city you have been selected to live in, that always seems dreary and cold, with buildings almost in shambles.
You have been deemed worthy of the Tartarus. Poor soul.
Unless, of course, you can find a way over the grand wall between the two cities. Good luck getting beyond the guards and electrified fence, however.
Monthly Injections Each month, those placed in both The Elysian Fields and Tartarus will be given routine injections. These aren't anything major and only to keep you in tiptop shape. Think of them as you would daily vitamins.
What Dichotomy is... Dichotomy is a multi-fandom RPG for games, books, movies, anime/manga, etc. Your character has been selected to be part of a social experiment.
In Elysian, your character may carry on a normal job--work, family-life, whatever. It's a perfect Utopian city like it says.
In Tartarus, your character will have to get by doing whatever they can to survive--stealing, prostitution, fighting, anything you can imagine. At certain times though, characters may be allowed through the great wall separating the two cities--there will be opportunities every couple weeks and winners will be chosen by a mod at random.
Your character will also receive monthly injections that will affect them in varying ways, all according to your preferences. You must choose both a positive and negative effect, however. The injections are also highly addictive. They provide a sense of euphoria and a sensation of well-being after injection that lasts varying lengths of time, depending on which city you live in. The citizens of Elysian Fields will feel the positive effects longer than those in Tartarus who will experience withdrawals and the pain a lot sooner. If they are resisted for too long though, citizens of either city will go through extreme withdrawals. Further information can be found in the FAQs.
Because of the nature of this RP, multiple versions of characters are allowed, one OU and one AU. Exceptions may be made in the case of series like Katekyo Hitman Reborn where there exists both young and older versions.
Each month, a mod chosen event will be held and players are more than welcome to come up with minor events if they want.
