I got back from my 10 day trip to New York on Saturday night. Between my sister and I we took a shitload of pictures, so I'll just tell the story through the pictures. And yes, I realize I can never make a normal face. You don't have to tell me. :o)
This is how I start every long trip:
So after driving for two days, my mom and I picked up my dad and sister at the airport in Newbourgh (sp?) New York and went to visit Washington's headquarters. It was fun. I made it fun.
Yes, that's my butt in the air and my sister trying to kick my leg out from under me.
When we were leaving Washington's headquarters I saw this huge bird and I was like, "Look at that huge bird!" and then the bird started to fly away and I realized it had a giant squirrel in it's claws and it freaked me out. I just thought I'd mention that. I mean, I KNOW that nature happens, but I don't want to see that kind of nature happen, you know?!
The next day was my grandparents memorial. It was pretty cold, but not too horrible. Probably around 45. At least it was sunny. The service was really nice. A lot of people that knew my grandparents before they got dementia were there and they said a lot of things that gave me a better understanding of the grandparents I never really knew. I can't really remember them before they were sick and thier minds weren't so great. Anyways, the service was in this small church that my grandfather used to be the minister of a long time ago. It was nice.
This is what "I should have worn pants" looks like:
Oh look at this HAPPY HAPPY family!
All the cousins:
The next morning, my sister and I walked around the town we were staying (Hancock, New York) which is on the border between New York and Pennsylvania.
DORK =
The next day we drove to Cooperstown, so my dad could go to The Baseball Hall of Fame. My sister went with him and my mom and I went to The Farmers Museum which was this old town set up and it had an ice cream museum of sorts and a museum of all the old farmers tools. It was interesting. It has all sorts of random things...My mom used to go there as a kid, and she said it was pretty much the same.
My new mode of transportation:
I chased some chickens:
My new house:
We also ate this rediculously good Cooperstown donuts. They were plain, but really good!!
Dork times 2 =
The night we were in Cooperstown I spent all night hurling. I guess no vacation is complete until you spend a night puking your guts out from eating all that garbage you've been eating (or drinking too much...haha). I should know my stomach can't handle bar food that is all fried and greasy and yeah. =(
Anyways, the next day we went to a Buddhist temple cause I thought it would be interesting. It was very peaceful. Maybe I need to become a Buddhist. I bought some Buddha beads and hung them in my rearview mirror. And I saw a giant snapping turtle...
After the temple, we went to a post (American Legion? Amvets? I should pay more attention)that was named after my great grandfather and talked to the guys there for a bit. We also visited my great grandmother and grandfathers grave in Arden. And we ate Ice Cream at a Friendly's.
The next day we went into the city. It was exactly how you see it in movies. Cabs Cabs and more Cabs all honking like crazy and people all walking down the streets on thier cell phones and it was a little too crazy for me. I mean, I'd love a city, but a small city...that was just too much city. Way too many people. But it was fun. We shopped a bit. We walked A LOT. We took the Subway once. We took the train into the city from Middleburg. That was like an hour. I can't imagine commutting like that everyday. I'd go insane.
The Wall street bull!
Where I buy my insanely expensive yoga clothes:
We went to Ground Zero (World Trade Center site).
We ate Frozen Hot Chocolate at Serendipity despite how cold it was outside. haha
Times Square:
Train ride home. I think we were all about to go insane.
After the day in the city, my dad and my sis went home on thier planes, and my mom and I stayed a few more days. We went on a 4 miles hike that took us 4 hours because it was like climbing up rocks (like hands and legs) and we totally got lost and had to fight our way through this giant mess of brambles and it was fun though. I love hiking. I can't wait to hike the AT someday (I'm thinking the year 2010 when I turn 25 would be appropriate).
Eating trail mix on the trail!! haha.
A chipmunk!
Part of the trail we did was also part of the Appalachian trail (marked by the white blazes) so those little white marks are what I'll be following for over 2000 miles when I hike the AT.
We were hiking on Bear Moutain. I was hoping to see a bear, but I didn't. Everyone in my family saw a bear crossing the road when we were driving to Hancock one night, but I was half asleep and by the time I heard everyone yelling, "BEAR BEAR BEAR!" it was already in the woods. =(
Oh, it was really cold the night after we went hiking. I had to sleep in my hat. haha.
I went to Asheville to look for an apartment and failed. It also rained all day like the last time I was in Asheville. I think it may be a sign. Anyways, there are no affordably priced apartments available anytime in the near future and there are no jobs. I sort of knew there were no jobs in that area. It's definately driven by tourism, much like Destin. I think I want to be done with that.
Right now, I'm planning a soon trip to Portland, OR. I've always wanted to live on the West Coast. Why not now? I have no plan. I can do anything for a year. Plus, I did really like Portland. It's a little cold, but I think I could do it. The public transportation is supposed to be super fast and efficient. I just have to find something affodable in a decent neighborhood that will take my cat. We'll see. I wish someone else wanted to move to Portland so I wouldn't be totally alone...Anybody???? :0)
Oh, we ended our vacation with the best dessert in the world: Cannolis!
I'm going to Orlando this weekend to see Steph and Philip. It should be great fun. I haven't seen Steph in probably over a year and it's always fun to hang out with Philip.
That is all.
