well it seems unfair, but it does make sense since switzerland is declared neutral. what if there was a war going on? if switzerland let you go between here and there, that would kind of ruin their status as neutral, since it would be supporting americans.

I see what you're saying, but thats not really the reasoning.
See, the SVP is the really conservative party in switzerland, and they think that the Swiss abroad (the fifth switzerland, they are sometimes referred to as..) shouldn't have a say in Swiss government. Because, you see, I'll be voting in Switzerland, and they think that since I don't live there I shouldn't be allowed to vote.
But I think that a lot of swiss abroad are still very active in their homeland, and follow political issues very closely.

Also, guys have to decide if they want to keep their dual citizenship when they turn 18, because if they want to remain swiss citizens, they have to go into the swiss military for training and stuff.
