Bette Davis Eyes!!!!

Mar 01, 2008 23:20

Just got back from the Bette Davis movie marathon at the Loews in Journal Square. Last night, we saw Now, Voyager which I felt was adorable, funny, charming, and an overall wonderful romantic comedy. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.

This afternoon was Jezebel. While it was my least favorite, I still enjoyed it. Before the movie, the ( Read more... )

they didn't show All About Eve? that's the movie that automatically makes me think of Bette Davis when i hear the title.

but i do love Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?. those actresses dueling it out in that movie really get to me every time. i only wish the ending wasn't so gay and lame, i'd love it more.

They're showing All About Eve in April as part of a different film festival. And Celeste Holm will be appearing at the show. That kinda makes up for it not being there this weekend.

In what way do you find it gay and lame?

just the whole leaving her there in the sand and then Baby Jane running off into the water. it's SO not a shocker and just blah

No, it's not a shocker, by today's standards, but back then, I think it was.

Oh, and I thought of you, because I think they should make a musical of Baby Jane. She should sing normally throughout the show until she has to "perform" as Baby Jane. And the perfect casting for it would be Christine Ebersole as Baby Jane Hudson.

Okay, this verifies things: when I contrive a reason for whole bunches of New York people to come visit SF, you're going on to the list. Robyn is crazygonuts for Gone with the Wind. Has the trivia game and everything. It would be cute, if I hadn't spent so damned much money over the years on snow globes, music boxes, and figurines.

Sounds like fun, I'll make sure to bone up on my knowledge before the trip. I'm not crazy crazy over it, but it is my favorite movie of all time. (After watching Jezebel yesterday, I'm making Keith watch it today with me, cause now I'm in the mood). I read the book once, and have not been able to read the "sequels" that have been written, because they lack the flavor of the original.

Oh, and just to drive my point home...the first time I knew (not only that I'm gay) but that I loved GWTW, I taped it off TBS or somesuch channel. I stayed home from school sick (I was 12 or 13), and watched it twice in a row. I would have started a third time, but since I was sick, I did fall asleep. Wow, hardcore! LOL!

I was in SF MANY YEARS AGO! I'd love to go back for a real visit.
And did you make that user pic? How do you do the scrolling??? I'd like to be able to do that!

I did make the user pic with an old, old, old version of Paint Shop Pro (6.0, I think) and the animation program that comes with it (Animation Shop, maybe? It's on my other computer, and I'm too lazy to go look). Download.com might be able to hook you up.
