I know you are not living there because of that. I want to live in England, but its not because of Harry Potter. I would love all that England had to offer. I understand you, sweetie!

Thanks so much! I would be so jealous if you moved to England, I just might have to come visit.

I know too! I mean that stuff can be inspiration because it allows you to see the country, but it isn't the reason why you are there.

I want to go to Japan, and while various things have inspired that, it isn't because of the tv shows.

I agree...its these shows/movies that introduce us to new ideas/countries/cultures. I think there is nothing wrong with that!

hehe, i know how you feel, everyone assumes that someone so into japan *must* just be an anime fan. and while i'm fond of a couple anime, it is by no means my primary reason for being into japan, or even really an influential reason. it's so irritating that people assume these things!

i think to some extent it's just a reflection of people's own limited understandings of a culture... "oh new zealand! i know nothing at all about new zealand except that that's where lotr was filmed! clearly that must be all there is to new zealand, and therefore be the only thing she wants to go there for!" silly people.

I agree...people are silly...

I don't normally mind explaining these differences to people, but it was coming to a point where I felt misjudged as a capable adult because of their limited perception of my choices.

I'm with the rest of the people here. Plus, I've never said it outright, but I'm SO impressed that you had a dream and went for it. Who cares why that dream was formed (and I *know* it wasn't because of LOTR), the fact that you went for it full-force makes you more admirable and grown up than, like, anyone I know. No joking here. I completely admire you for that.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I believe everyone should go for a dream like this at least once in their life.
