She was crouched in front of his bookshelf when he came home, wearing only her borrowed sweats and an old t-shirt of his. Books were in neat stacks all around her, she was absent-mindedly humming to herself as she built the columns of books all around her.

“Laura?”

Her face flushed a deep red and she straightened up rather quickly, knocking over the pile nearest to her.

“Hi,” she squeaked breathlessly.

“Having fun?” His smile was full of warmth and affection.

She bit her lip guiltily.

“I was re-organizing,” she said slowly. “I thought that if we had our books organized alphabetically we’d -“

“Sure,” he said, cutting off her rambling explanation. “If that’s what you prefer.”

She eyed him suspiciously.

“You don’t mind me moving your stuff around?” she asked.

“Not at all,” he said as he shed his tunic.

“Really?” she looked at him disbelievingly.

He walked up to her and placed both hands on her shoulders so that he could nudge her closer to him. Her arms instinctually wrapped around his torso.

“Really,” he chuckled. “After all, you said it. It’s our stuff.” Laura relaxed into his embrace.

For the first time in her life, she felt like she was at home.
