“My Gods, how can Colonel Tigh stand that woman! She’s, she’s..” Laura flapped her arms ineffectually.
“I know,” Bill chuckled. “But love is blind,” he sighed.
“Unbelievable,” Laura said as she sunk into the leather of his couch. “Un-frakking-believable.”
“She’s tame now. You should have met her twenty-five years ago,” he drained his glass with one gulp, “she was a frakking nightmare then.”
“No, don’t tell me, I don’t want to imagine that.” Laura closed her eyes and grimaced.
“She set me up with my ex-wife.” Laura’s eyes flew open. “Carolanne and Ellen went to high school together. Ellen was dating Saul a few weeks when she suggested I meet her friend. We got married seven months later,” he said.
“Love is blind,” Laura repeated with a smile.
“I certainly was.”
“In love? Or blind?” she asked.
“Both,” he said honestly. “I rushed into it, I should have thought twice about marrying her. We were very young, unstable, the timing wasn’t right,” he admitted.
“I’m sorry to hear,” she said sincerely.
“What about you? Ever been married?” he asked lightly. She hesitated slightly.
“No,” she said after a short while. “Though I did come close right after college,” she admitted.
“What stopped you?” He dared to shift his body slightly so that their knees were touching.
“I thought twice about it,” she said. “I realized that it wasn’t going to work, that we were rushing into it.”
“His loss,” Bill said quietly.
“You don’t know that,” she teased. “I could have ended up being a horrible wife.”
“Impossible,” he said stubbornly. She crossed her arms haughtily. “Don’t bother arguing, I’m a military Commander, we’re know for our precision.”
She regarded him for a moment: “You’re also known for your stubbornness.”
Bill chuckled: “Good, we have something in common then.”
