ar_drabbles “Laura, why are there three settings for dinner?” Bill gestured to the three glasses and sets of utensils on the dinning table.
“I invited Kara and Lee over for dinner,” she explained. “It’s been a while since you’ve seen them, and I thought you’d want to have a family dinner.” She didn’t look up from her stack of reports as she answered him.
Bill walked over and brushed her hair back. He placed a warm, wet kiss on her delicate skin and she hummed her delight.
“You counted wrong,” he murmured. Her fingers came to tangle in his hair.
“There should be four settings. It’s not a family dinner without you,” he said simply.
“Dad wants to bring his girlfriend to dinner? What will the children say?” she teased.
“They don’t get a say,” he growled. “Dad’s bringing his partner and that’s final.”
“Partner?” she crinkled her nose.
“What would you prefer?” he asked very carefully; they had never discussed this openly before. He certainly knew what he’d prefer.
“I..I don’t know,” she stuttered adorably.
Bill checked his watch.
“Well, you’ve got thirty minutes until Jaffee shows up with dinner to figure out how Dad is introducing his lady friend to the kids tonight,” he deadpanned.
