“Any regrets?”
“Had a few. Can’t recall what they were.” Her response is followed by a soft, ironic chuckle.
The universe is stretched out before them. It is an infinite thing; time does not exist here (did it ever? he wonders), he is aware of her presence (as he has always been) and that is all that matters (she is all that has ever mattered).
“You?”
“I don’t do regrets.” His response is met with an amused glare, (how he loves it when she looks at him like that) she doesn’t need to speak to say something. He is fluent in the language of Laura Roslin (always has been).
He feels all of her; her calmly beating heart, the soft curl of her hair, the hot, wet softness of her tongue on his skin, the smooth, length of her legs wrapped around him - he feels it all, in the simple act of holding her hand.
He used to think that the body and soul became separated in death; he realizes now that they had been disconnected for all of his life. In death, they are finally whole.
“What now?”
“Now, we rest.”
Her smile is more luminous in death than it ever was in life.
