A/N: The prompt for this fic was, "cold beers on Sunday afternoon" from
frakkingblerg on Tumblr.
Andrea trailed the can of cool beer up Sharon’s arm, across her shoulder, and into the crook of her neck; Sharon shivered in response. “This was a very good idea,” she chuckled.
The temperature had reached a record-breaking high today; not even Sharon’s well air-conditioned condo could provide respite from the heat wave that had consumed LA this past week.
“Told you so,” Andrea said smugly, “I didn’t grow up in a fancy apartment like this, we didn’t have an air conditioning unit. When we needed to cool down, this is how we did it.” She pressed the can of beer against Sharon’s collar and across her sternum.
The sound of Rusty’s bedroom door opening and closing caused both women to pull apart slightly; the can of beer went back to its spot on Sharon’s upper arm.
“It’s so hot,” Rusty moaned as he flopped down in the armchair opposite them.
Andrea tossed a can of beer his way. “Have a beer; unlike ice the can won’t melt on you and they’re manufactured to keep the beer inside chilled. They’re like little thermoses of cool relief,” she said winking at the teen.
Rusty caught the can and applied it to his forehead. “Thanks,” he said gratefully, “I didn’t know that you were such a beer expert,” he added cheekily.
“Oh, one learns a thing or two in one's youth.” At Sharon’s scowl, Andrea amended, “and by youth I mean at the age of twenty-one.”
“Sure,” Rusty said sarcastically.
Right on cue, the lights powered off, leaving the three of them staring rather miserably at the inactive air unit on the wall.
“Don’t worry,” Andrea said quickly, “I bought a six pack.”
A beat passed; the three of them forgot the heat for just a moment and burst out laughing.
