I'm trying to write an application essay for USM. It really shouldn't be hard, I know, but for some reason I can't seem to get it right. I thought I'd start off with a poem. A poem about my poetry. See, because then I'd be able to continue on with an essay about my "academic goals" being simply recognition of my work. But to do that I'd have to

I concur about the poetry...I don't think you can call yourself a poet just because you string seemingly random words together that happen to fit a certain poem format and say you wrote a poem! Poems should stir feeling or paint a picture! Maybe you should take your ideas about poetry and your feeling on that and justify your work that way... you know grades should reflect on the work done and knowledge obtained just as the beauty or wisdom or soul of the poem should relate directly to ones ability to take something away from the poem because it is clear... this proves the poets worth.

My last comment was in no way saying YOUR poetry sucks because I don't know to be honest since I haven't really seen it... it was just a comment however I feel certain that your work has worth!
