If I were to consider getting back into Pokemon (I haven't played since the original Red and Blue versions), what game should I go with? Pre-order the new Heartgold or Soulsilver? Go with Platium? Diamond? Pearl? My DS needs more use, and I wanna be the very best all of a sudden.

I would definitely go with DP or HGSS. Mostly recommend DP. It's really the most advanced generation in terms of mechanics, story, and convenience. The Contest system is doubly improved from RSE, the physical/special turnaround in the battle system is more balanced (lol implying pokemon being balanced at all in any form) the graphics are great, etcetc. Actually I'd suggest Platinum, since the amount of pokemon you can find before the elite four is increased and the gyms were all changed to be cooler. Plus extra Distortion World area!
HGSS will probably be cool, it's most people's favorite game, plus it will have added 4th gen improvements. I don't like the apricot/phone systems though and the characters are kinda unmemorable.

tl;dr probably get Platinum unless you wanna wait for HGSS really bad because everyone is nostalgiafaggy for it.

Go for Heartgold or Soulsilver. If you're get pokemon best to get back into it with the newest games possible.
