Though I rarely use this for general news announcements, I feel compelled to note here that Elliott Smith died today in an apparent suicide attempt. I felt surprised when I first read about it, but I wonder if I really should have.

i'm sorry sweetie :( suicide is such a terribly sad thing. it always comes as a shock because, even if someone is depressed and/or melancholy, it's hard to imagine that they'd kills themselves over it. it makes everyone stop for a second and question what they're doing.
