A languid offering of my own to a frenzied world

Apr 22, 2006 00:36

Have just seen Skeeter's latest contribution to the social consciousness. Am more inclined to level responsibility at the reading public than the individual that concocts their drug of choice.

Finally uncovered the book I was searching for last week; something about Plath's tone seems particularly apt:

She must not be a Witch, as I do not recall her name. Do you read Muggle poetry then?

I read good poetry, Mr. Morsus. "Muggle" is a meaningless adjective where literature is concerned.

Ah yes, forgive the uncouth mentioning of archaic and most certainly very undemocratic denotations. But I do agree. Although I, myself, prefer the French Decadents. Something along the lines of:

You'd take to bed the whole world as your prize,
you slut of sluts, by boredom brutalized!
To exercise your jaws at this rare sport
each day you must be served a fresh-killed heart.

Perhaps I ought to have predicted your love of this father of modern criticism ( ... )

Miss Burke,

You hadn't read that the day Ginny and I came to see you? It was the same day that little piece of 'news' was made public. Which, if I owe you an apology for my behaviour that afternoon, you have just read the reason behind it. I wasn't in the best of moods.

Ms. Burke,

It's good to know that there's someone else out there who doesn't take what Rita Skeeter writes as truth. Although, I hear that a lot and yet people still tend to take her words, at least in part, to heart.

My mood does not, in fact, depend on people liek Rita Skeeter not that she helps it much. I am really rather used to the articles, which means it would take much more to offend me than the ridiculous notion that Draco Malfoy and I are - well, you read it. My concern is for the other people she writes about...namely people close to me who aren't used to being the center of the Press' attention. I have grown accustomed to it, but it took a while for that to happen. These people aren't and shouldn't have to be.

Anyways, I apologize for rambling. I just...I feel strongly about this, is all.

-H. Potter

P.S. Sorry about your name. Luckily, I was given a rater simple name otherwise I'd probably misspell that as well.

I take everything with a grain of salt, Mr. Potter. It is my way. In any event, do not bother recruiting fellow dissenters just yet...there is little as transient as gossip, but I imagine the people's love for you will be rather more permanent. If that is, indeed, something about which you are concerned.

I am glad to hear that Rita Skeeter and her constituents do not have their 'fingers on your pulse,' as it were, lest you continually feel the need to send missives to acquaintances asking forgiveness for uncouth behavior on Morning Edition days. If you'll excuse my inappropriate joking. I'm afraid sarcasm does not always translate well on paper.

Why does everyone feel the need to apologise to me? At least with you, the gesture seems honest and made with good intents...unlike others with which I have spoken.

Your altruism is admirable. I imagine your loved ones are quite aware of their good fortune, Mr. Potter.

Nonetheless, be wary of forgetting your own needs.

-Burke

Good God in heaven, I work among imbeciles. Why the bloody hell did they give him my name without notifying me? Heads will roll.

Mr. Lestrange:

I suspect you are contacting me concerning your scheduled evaluation in the coming week. Indeed, I will be the one conducting the meeting.

As for your query about the motivation behind my current location, I cannot admit to knowing exactly what you mean, or whether you refer to the metaphysical or the literal.

So you are Ms. Burke.

Indeed. I suppose there is no wriggling my way out of such unsavoury predicaments, is there?

I suppose, then, that I shall see you.

If you're lucky, you'll make it out alive

Rabastan Lestrange.
