Hmm. I hadn't considered Bond films in that light, but you could be right. I'm not a particular fan of Bond, either, although I like those films more than I liked the Twilight film.
This could be because I grew up on male fantasy literature (SF, action-adventure, mystery, ...) and Twilight is very much a female fantasy. The tropes are completely different and the emotional throughline has a completely different shape. Perhaps I should have wondered if pop-lit is heading in the direction of female wish-fulfillment fantasy.
