Would that the author actually takes in what you're trying to tell you and not dismiss it as you just not understanding their genius.

You're a better person than I am, though. Any kind of AU makes me break out in hives.

I'm fond of AU stories because I like 'What if...?' stories. Like fairy tales, they're wish-fulfillment fantasies, and they tell me a lot about what people think is the 'right' way for events to fall out. Just look at all them US Civil War AUs...!
