European History somewhere around 1936-1939 and why it is merrily tromping all over my life....

My life is currently a series of events that can be best described as appeasement. As most people know appeasement was the policy of Britain toward Hitler before WWII. It was done because nobody wanted another war, nobody wanted more death and mayhem, and most of all nobody had the bus fare to ship a large army to the nearest battlefield. Currently ( Read more... )

Hmm, Naked Urban Hangliding for Beginners... I wonder if I'd start with the chapter on public nudity ("it's best to leave a set of clothes with someone you don't owe any money..."), the chapter on Structural Avoidance ("if you're male, please do watch out for flagpoles") or basic nudist avionics ("flapping your arms, unless you're remarkably well endowed, will probably accomplish nothing...")

I take it from your tone she hasn't been seen about with tall latin men named Fernando recently... A woman never seems to give up until she's got the next one lined up and set for the pouncing. I will probably be castrated for that comment, but I can support it with many, many examples, and I'm sure I'm not the only one ;)

See you in a week or so!

i wouldn't go THAT far, but you might oughta be abused at least a little. i'll spare you for now, though, esp since i know, even if you won't admit it, how many examples can also be offered with the gender-roles reversed. it's not a woman-thing, it's an "i hope x didn't really mean it" thing that lots of people start doing when either a) breaking up wasn't their idea in the first place, or b) they're lonely and so wish it hadn't been.

which is not to say that the arrival of fernando on the scene wouldn't solve the problem, b/c i agree it totally would. just don't go talkin' like the only fools out there who act stupid about exes are women!

Even if you're trying to keep her and she wants to get away, I've never known a woman save 1 who's left until she's got a good next try lined up. The attitude seems to be "better anyone than no-one", which can lead a guy to question his true place in things. I was trying to come up with a girl who has been single for any appreciable amount of time once she started dating, and couldn't think of a one.

you realize we could have this debate for years, right? b/c i can look at those same statistics and think: "but THEY kept pounding on MY door!" i've spent a significant amount of time "single"--which wasn't the same as "celibate" or "emotionally unentangled," and i've told a lot of people "no" and "not now" and "this really isn't the best idea" and then caved because it was easier than protesting--and because i valued my friendships/relationships with them more than i cared what they called it. in my experience, it's been me on quite a few occasions NOT wanting a relationship to be called "dating" or "taken" or "mine," and boys/men pulling the possessive card and insisting that the terms stick ( ... )
