That last paragraph about the drunks reminds me of this situation in high school.
A popular girl got drunk at a party and crashed her car and died. All the little popular kids the following Monday at school were in tears and just devastated. They all swore never to drink again.
A month later I could overhear several in my classes say stupid shit like, "Man, I got so wasted this weekend!"
Moral of the story? Yeah, don't drink and drive. Underlying moral of the story? Popular does not equal smart. Plus they could have been lying to look cool, who knows. :)
