Severus let himself sink into the deliberate motions of potion-making, allowing the odd emotions the Doctor had raised in him to settle. The Doctor was certainly the oddest man he had met while here and he did include Dexter in that list. Though considering the Doctor was an alien he supposed that was to be expected. For the first time in a long time, House was in a relatively good mood and relatively pain free. Thanks to Cuddy's stash of morphine in her medical bag that House helped himself to while she was asleep, no less. He'd woken up around eight in the morning, saw that Cuddy was gone, felt little pain or detoxing discomfort and House actually smiled to himself before he rolled over and went back to sleep for a short while. Right at that moment, he was too focused on how high he felt and how good that felt, to worry about where his next hit was going to come from ( ... )

When the voice spoke from behind him, it was only years of disciplined potion brewing that enabled him to react with nothing more than the tensing of the muscles in his back and shoulders and the tightening of his hand around his stirrer ( ... )

Yeah. Not House -- he didn't have the good sense and manners to knock on a closed door. Only when a door was locked did he knock, and even then it wasn't knocking. Usually, it was obnoxious pounding, a demand to be let in. And if that didn't work, then he was never usually above using his cane for forceful entry, or finding ways to pick locks. Depending on how much he wanted to get into a room, of course. Like Cuddy's room, for example; there was every bit the chance he would try forceful entry into her room for a search of morphine when the opiate finally wore off and House was back to detoxing and desperate ( ... )

Severus snorted with wry amusement. He couldn't argue with the comment about cooking. Oh, he could cook; anyone who could brew the Wolfsbane potion could easily follow a simple recipe but he didn't much care for cooking for himself. In that way, living at Hogwarts had been a boon, the house elves were always pathetically thankful to prepare a meal for him whenever he wanted one ( ... )
