I watched The Cove lastnight. What a hard thing for a dolphin lover like me to watch even though I knew what I would see. Dolphins are sentient beings and don't deserve the treatment we inflict on them individually and as a species. I reiterate my vow never to go to another dolphinarium and every time I feel I need to remind myself I'll just watch ( Read more... )

It's probably the biggest reason that aliens haven't contacted us yet.

Alien: "They're barbarians! Why risk loosing them on the galaxy? They'll destroy life where ever they find it."

Some of us are ready, but we still have a long, long way to go.

Our lack of empathy for other living things never ceases to amaze or disgust me. We really are just thuggish monkeys with big sticks, aren't we?

I knida think we deserve Hollywood's hostile aliens scenario. Maybe we will grow up some before then, I hope. We can't even manage our own homeworld. How can we even think of colonies?

That was one think I liked about Brin's books. Humanity feels extremely guilty for the stuff we have done and is judged by galactic society on how well we manage a planet.

That is going to be a tough movie to watch.

It was tough for me. Aqua has the list of expletives and exclamations I sent him as I watched the movie. I applaud Ric O'Barry for his courage even if he did break the law. Though he never fired a shot or harmed anyone. What Japan is doing is far worse than a little tresspassing.

I consider myself to be pretty stoic and level-headed. But I don't know if I've the stomach for The Cove. I might just start murdering Japanese people indiscriminately.

I had dared to hope that Japan had learned something in the last 20 years. I was wrong.

I had thought that they had learned something from the events of Aug. 8 and Aug. 14 1945. All they learned from us is Exploit! Exploit! Exploit! Sell! Sell! Sell!

There would not be a dolphin slaughter if the fishermen weren't getting paid 350000 USD for the attractive phins.

Ah, good 'ol capitalism. Greed really does make the world go 'round, doesn't it?

The biggest step in the right direction is getting dolphins recognized as NHPs (non-human persons) and legally protected in the same way people are. That would also eliminate the aquarium industry's captivity programs at the same time.

I agree but someone would still harvest them until they get a UN representative. But that would be one hell of a long election/dominance fight.
