I used to be a Libertarian. I agree with pretty much their entire platform, with one major exception: government MUST oversee corporations. They will rape us mere people and the planet in the relentless march of capitalism and pursuit of profit at all cost.

If government allows corporate greed to go unchecked, eventually the corporations run the government itself... and you have pretty much the situation we've got right now.

No, its not, not to this.

"Protecting the environment requires a clear definition and enforcement of individual rights in resources like land, water, air, and wildlife. Free markets and property rights stimulate the technological innovations and behavioral changes required to protect our environment and ecosystems."

Fuck that shit, they are saying people can do whatever the fuck they want as long as it doesn't harm any other person. What about the environment, it'll get fucked up WORSE than it is now, even with a terrible government running it.

What about monopolies? They WILL arise and you WILL get shafted. Libertarianism is like communism, it will never work in practice. Never work as in, we'll be worse off.

Well, socialism does not work either. Works for people living in the city, but screws people living in rural areas. BTW, the U. S. has had anti-trust laws in place since the 1930s. One Rockefeller was enough. They just don't get enforced. I do agree that corporations should be held accountable for their actions (See you in court, BP) or, in BP's case, their cost-cutting measures.
