i moved here to Chicago knowing only Dave (and we recently ended. again.) and without a job. i temped for two months. it wasn't super-fun, because you never really get to establish yourself somewhere if you're only working each place for a few days to a few weeks, BUT it allowed me to pay my rent while going on other interviews.
and ultimately i ended up going permanent at a temp position - and i've never been happier.
i'm not sure what the market's like in columbus for temping, but i always had work if i wanted it while temping.
i say do it - often it's super-hard (without a technical/specialized background) to get a job without living where you're looking. you're just not in the know and you can't go for interviews at the drop of a hat, etc.
good luck, babe!
