LA ideas

I'm still trying to decide if there's anything I MUST do while in LA.
I'm not wanting to do any shopping really.
Kristin has already promised me biking at Santa Monica beach
Eating is alway lovely -- sushi and ethnic food are a plus

Other Ideas (reviews/suggestions welcome):
Watts Towers? (They remind me of Gaudi)
The Getty?
Grand Central Market?

There's fun shopping in West Hollywood. Definitely do a canyon hike; Topanga is a good one. It's like a different world. Me, I like to go to the beach: Huntington, Venice, Malibu are all good.

I'm not so much into the shopping this time around, though i did have fun shopping in that area last time i was there.

I'm excited about the beach, though the weather is not looking favorable for it :( Santa Monica beach is like 15 min from my sister's house, so i'm sure we'll go there.

Here is a thread started by another friend heading to LA. Some good suggestions there.

I HIGHLY recommend the Getty. You can go to the main museum without reservations, but I think you still need reservations for the Villa. Doesn't really matter, since they're not close to each other & the main center can take all day to get through.

I think the main center sounds so much more interesting to me and i think it will be great to do taht with my sister...i doubt she's been.

I really really really liked Elixer Tonics & Teas on Melrose.

There's also a Russian Tea room where you can sit with the hookas and get some thick as pitch coffee and authentic russian teas.

But I'm a tea-whore, not sure if you are.

I've got about 50-60 different kinds of teas not counting all the loose dried things in my cabinet :) So yes. I think we shared tea geekery before.

Thansk for the reco -- Elixer sounds perfect.

I did Venice Beach last time, and while it was fun, I wasn't overwhelmed with awesomeness enough to go just for that (though there were some fun little eateries there).

Are the tar pits worth it?

I thought the pits were bleh
the art museums there stink too, too few things
but I really wanted to go to the Getty but couldn't due to transportation issues

I can't imagine I'd be totally thrilled with the pits, but who knows. I think the Getty will be fantastic.
