How to find out who has opted in and who hasn't!

So July is when AVOS is planning to take over Delicious, according to their original announcement, and July is nearly here. (HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?) As far as I know, no one ever got together a coordinated effort to back up fandom Delicious accounts that they feared might not get transferred over, so we are in a position where a lot of great data ( Read more... )

I'm all sadfaced that BitchfaceTM will not be quite the same afterwards. It was the first delicious page I went to for J2 fics. That seems to be the only delicious that I have bookmarked that won't go through, at least.

That's good that there's just the one! I've started a public Google Docs collection, Delicious Backups, and I've put an XML backup of BithfaceTM's public bookmarks there.

Thanks for posting this check. I can use that to narrow down the people I have left to back up. I have an updated tool that I have been using to back things up if anyone is interested. I am not comfortable releasing it for public consumption due to some of the features, but would be happy to pass it on to fandom people who ask. Also, as there are a few days left, I would be willing to share lists of people backed up (and XML files) in order to prevent spending time on someone twice. I've saved a decent number of users already.

Oh, you've been archiving? That's fantastic. I am not really great at spearheading community efforts, but as we get closer to July, I'm getting more concerned that nothing has been done to preserve inactive accounts and I'm wondering what to do about it. Do you think it would be worthwhile to try to get people to submit inactive account names? I think we could get the community engaged if we get the word out. Then I (and some likeminded people, maybe?) could use your updated tool to archive anyone you haven't yet archived. Think it's worth pursuing?

I think that is a good idea. I'll put together a little tutorial on my new tool tomorrow before work and send it on with the program, bugs and all. If you can get it to work for you, then pass it on to like-minded people. Hopefully they will forgive the things I didn't bother fixing. I'll also see about putting together a list of people I have already downloaded. I'm also currently trying to put together a list of fannish delicious users that should be done for tomorrow. Won't give any information about if they have moved over, but it could be something to start from.
