incredibly bored with this chapter. I know ennui is a really stupid disruption to the writing, but it's one of those things where I've read so much about the topic that I don't really know why I'm writing about it anymore. I know I need to provide context and background, and part of the problem is that the field is just so. ridonkulously. big. But

It's weird. There's so much random silliness in my head. I'm just getting super impatient with this chapter, but it's not like it's going to write itself.

Yeah, we were actually quite spooked, at first, but a little while later I thought it was hilarious.

I just met up with a friend who said that one of her committee members admitted at the defence that he did not read her dissertation (!).

It's tedious but part of the process - i.e. writing seemingly boring stuff that have already been written. We have to demonstrate that we know the field well, and if that means hashing it all over again in some sort of a summary, then so be it. But then, it is also important to identify theoretical or empirical lacuna and highlight what it is your dissertation is supposed to address. I tend to do that at the end of each (review) section or chapter.

Yeah, good point. I know it's the bits that get parsed (how this is relevant and why you need to read this before you go on to read the rest of the dissertation) that are interesting (analytically), but ... yeah, just ... zzz..
