For now, I just want you here at the house where I've been keeping Meridiana so I can have more eyes watching for when they arrive.

If they arrive sometime during the night, I want you to restrain Meridiana quickly. I'd like the chance to see the Earl without him being tempted to pull heroics.

Not if it can be helped. Meridiana I want to return to us in one piece, and if Cain dies then then punishment the Cardmaster will bring down is not something I'd like to contemplate.

That said, if they bring anyone else with them, all's fair game.

And she's even playing Rapunzel now? How sweet.

That she is, run off to meet her Prince Charming. Too bad she'll rot away within a week if she doesn't return, or else it could have had a fairy-tale ending as well.

What a pity. Is there some weekly process then to prevent that from happening?

There is. I rejuvenate her with the blood of other women and it keeps her from deteriorating.

Oh, indeed. And if she weren't going to rot away within a week, it could even continue to be like a fairy tale.

How tragic. What does she need to stop the rotting?
