I made this as a sample a while back. I've got a proper one to do in tartan and I wanted to practise. It worked out pretty well. A few things I'll change on the proper one like matching the binding up with the check.
This is tiny though! It was made to a pattern for another customer (whose mock-up I'm still waiting on being returned) it's only 18"

Wait 'til you see the tartan I've got for the ordered one. We think it's a variation of Culloden tartan. Purples and greyish taupe. Very subtle.
It's for a redhead, so it should suit her well.

The external bones were me cheating the pattern matching a bit :) I like it being on the diagonal at the front though.

Is it silk? And are the casings for the boning, silk?
The bones or steels appear to have a high profile: what are you using? I'm so intrigued---! :-)

It's a wool/poly blend. Cheap stuff as it was really a practice for getting the checks to sit right.
The bone casings are navy silk dupion. Mainly as it gives a nice contrast - not because it makes it less of a nightmare to pattern match the seams- no, not that reason, of course not ;)
Just silk over coutil tubes over spiral bones.
