What being a Vegetarian Means to Me...

Just my own personal beliefs and reflections.

What being a Vegetarian Means to Me..It means I am healthier... A lot of major illnesses in Western society are the direct cause of eating animal products in extremely large quantities pumped full of growth hormones, antibiotics and other things most people don't want to know about. I orginally went ( Read more... )

Sorry about my bunny joke the other day. It was a comment on bunnies, not on vegetarians, but I realized it was tasteless at a table with vegetarians.

Poor taste perhaps, though I just felt bad for the poor cute bunny. In reality however, thats not the type of thing I was talking about for this. There was a context to your statement which was that you weren't going to get a bunny as a pet because you personally saw them as food.

While I agree with you hon on many factors, I know for a fact that Vegetarians being healthier isn't fair either. I became UNHEALTHY from being one for over a year, because my body NEEDS the proteins and enzymes meat has. Because of the condition I have, meat is the best way to get what I need without making my life and pain worse.

I think people need to choose for themselves what works best for them and keep their biases out of it. Sorry, but while you have some great facts here, not all these facts work for every person. (like your statement that vegetarians are healthier.)

What works for each individual person is different. However, that vegetarians are on average healthier on the specific issues cited is factually accurate.

I suppose. I dont fully trust statistics as most are rigged anyhow to benefit the side that wants to win.

And considering I have less problems when I follow my diet properly (Like how about we get rid of all the white starches! Now that would make me happier. Do that, and make farming meat practices better and I will be much happier with food.) I am not in pain, I am healthier, and I can exercise.

Oh and just because someone may have meat on their bones, doesn't make them sick or fat. Not saying you are saying that, it's a personal pet peeve of mine when we talk about food. That somehow someone is unhealthy because they have meat on their bones. So take the stats with a grain of salt, like everything else. They probably don't even consider people who are healthy and meaty.

Actually I try to read reports from government health agencies who in the past have been very negative about vegetarians, but the results were based upon scientific studies with strong internal validity. And actually considering most of the studies are not based upon issues such as weight, but instead risk of heart disease or cancer or diabetes or stroke they do include people of varying body types.
