Noonish Rant

Sep 15, 2009 12:00

I'm not one to normally post about faith or religion. Faith isn't so bad to hear about. People of faith stay out of the political realm. People of religion want to take over the world. That's the way that I see it. I've had this enigma lately. I believe that there is a God because I've had prayers answered when I was really in trouble and ( Read more... )

Maybe with the Unitarians?

Just be clear in your heart and mind that those people aren't real Christians. Jesus would be horrified at what has gone on in his name.

If you believe in God and Jesus, then let that guide you and give you comfort and be strong in your faith and follow the teachings of Jesus; be kind to others, don't be judgmental, and make your place on earth a benefit to not only yourself and your loved ones, but to those who don't have as much as you do. Don't worry about those other people or what they think.

And politically, we'll just have to fight them the best way we can to make sure they don't screw up all of our lives.

Yeah, that's a tricky one. Remember what Orwell said about Socialists: "As with Christianity, the worst advertisement for Socialism is its adherents ( ... )

Yeah but LDS isn't Christianity. It's a cult that's gained church status in the US. And I'm sorry Rob, but LDS is not mainstream in the slightest. They have rituals, tenets and requirements that are so dogmatic that they would turn off most middle of the road Christians. Also, they're extremely inclusive.

Oh, I know, LDS is definitely not mainstream, and (IMHFO) nor should it be. Lots of Mormons go into extravagances about how when Isaiah calls the chosen "a peculiar people" he really means "set apart, distinctive, unique". I prefer to think "No, dammit, we are peculiar, and we should be peculiar."

God knows I'm peculiar enough for an entire church.... %-)

But yeah, it's not really what you'd call a place for moderates.

By "inclusive", did you mean "exclusive"? I think that'd be more accurate; I suspect you may have had a small brain fart. ;)

Hahahaha, yes, exclusive is what I meant. My brain is fried from being up until midnight briefing cases for Contracts after a 3 hour class on Criminal Law last night.

The LDS is as exclusive as the Jews are, IMO.

ETA: Fried not friend! LOL

I'm in a similar state as you regarding Christianity. My faith, prayers, and the guidance of Christ got me through some pretty tough times in the late 80's through about 1992. I saw a marriage crumble, lost contact with three children who were my world, had a very inconvenient and potentially terminal illness come and go, and finally got to flee the place where it all went bad. My faith sustained me all the way back to Ohio. In fact, it was a large part of what attracted my current wife to me ( ... )
