I would use the term "position" to denote the choice of a location in either spatial or ideological terms as opposed to a more literal reading which would illustrate a physical posture.

Artists are masters of the discriminitive intelligence. In the act of creation they continually choose one thing over another depending on the result desired. That being so, an artist would be someone who moreso than just creating an object - art - creates a position by which specific works may be produced.
