That's just wrong. They should have at least asked you if they could use it.

I'd say start posting stuff in crappier resolutions and keep the high res versions to yourself. If they have a shitty image to begin with there would be less likelyhood of it being stolen.

That's nice, but it's still a rip-off. You should be credited, and they need to clearly understand that they've ripped you off and make it right. You could choose to let them use it anyway, but I'd still have the conversation.
