You're right. And their contract should be much the same as a rental agreement in that even if this other guy purchased the spot, he has to wait until their contract expires before they can move in. Perhaps business contracts are different, or the notice period is such that they'd have to leave before December, but that's still pretty heavy handed. I'd very much believe that its the owner of these other restaurants wanting to corner the food market in his little empire. Bah! When it comes to food, I very much believe in the free market system.

Knowing some of the things that the guy that's running the chinese places has done I'm shocked that the mall is allowing him to have leeway over this sort of thing. Most certainly though they shouldn't let him muscle in on a newcomer's business.
