Nintendo DS WiFi?

Tried helping the folks get their DS's to connect via some usb WiFi adapter thing to no success. Even tried following instructions (*gasp!*)on the Nintendo website. I think I'm having trouble figuring out what the WEP key is on the device, but otherwise they'll try the 1800 number on Monday and have someone walk them through it that knows what they ( Read more... )

If its a Nintendo-branded adapter, use the software and follow the instructions provided. If you're using an off-the-shelf standard adapter, then its a bit more complicated. Windows should be fine to manage the setup, but make sure that the adapter is configured for ad-hoc networking where I'm assuming you're trying to link the DS directly to it. A WEP key is something you have to create on the computer end to then be inserted into the DS when you eventually get to where you want to establish your connection. I personally consider WEP to be a pain in the ass to try and configure so I never bother with it. Its not really at all secure, though where your parents are out on a farm I'd say the risks are minimal.

I actually have good luck when I load Mario Kart DS. You do need to see if Wifi can be located and set it to that location. Some places though it did seem to find Wifi and it wouldn't load. I think because it was password protected or something.
